Langshiyuan Villa

Nestled in Langshiyuan, Taizhou, this residence spans four floors including a basement. The designer aimed to break away from the inherent enclosed boundaries of underground spaces, taking light as the most essential element shaping the interior. By excavating a courtyard at the northeast corner and crafting a sunken garden to the south, the basement’s lighting layout has been entirely reimagined. What was once a cramped, dim lower level has been transformed into an airy, transparent living space filled with a sense of openness.

Design as Structure
In the living room, Royana Bern Fog Wood, set against white walls and grey flooring, lays a serene tone with its delicate grain and muted, steady hue. The dining and kitchen area is divided by color blocks and materials, creating a natural visual boundary with the mezzanine floor. Running continuously from ceiling beams all the way to cabinetry, Royana wood links structural parts, custom furniture and the two levels of the house, maintaining a soft, natural and refined ambiance throughout.
