The Royana x GUBI Shanghai flagship officially opened on May 16th at Red Star Ouli Global Furniture Supreme Mall on Wuzhong Road, Royana and GUBI present a 445-square-meter architectural landscape in Shanghai, conceived by Gary Zeng, where domestic intimacy and contemporary design culture converge within a unified spatial system.
Designed as an immersive residential environment, rather than displaying products, the space proposes a complete way of living—one defined by emotional warmth, spatial fluidity, and the dialogue between architecture and furniture.
The spatial narrative begins with an entry garden that softens the transition between city and interior. This threshold establishes a sense of retreat, allowing the visitor to move gradually from the urban exterior into a composed domestic world. Inside, the ground-floor social spaces are wrapped in Bern Mist Apricot Wood, whose luminous tone and fine texture form an architectural skin that is both warm and restrained. This material continuity provides a quiet framework against which GUBI iconic furniture pieces unfold, particularly the sculptural softness of the Pacha collection. The dialogue between curved forms and planar surfaces generates a tactile environment where comfort and structure coexist.
A sculptural spiral staircase in dark wood anchors the vertical circulation, introducing a moment of architectural gravity. As one ascends, the atmosphere shifts toward a more intimate and contemplative domain. The upper floor is defined by the Bern Mist Camel Wood system, whose deeper chromatic richness brings depth and composure to the private areas. Here, color and material are used not as ornament, but as instruments of spatial rhythm. From the tea room to the daughter’s room finished in Varenna Ice Pink, each space maintains its own identity while remaining part of a coherent architectural language.
GUBI heritage pieces are not treated as isolated objects but as spatial actors that respond to architectural framework. The result is an environment where boundaries between interior architecture and product design are intentionally dissolved. Gary Zeng establishes a refined balance between structure and emotion. The project stands as a living model of how contemporary domestic space can be both technically rigorous and deeply human.
